Sao Vicente is an island which is popular with younger people, since it has a bustling nightlife on offer and features Cape Verde’s liveliest carnival and the Baia das Gratas festival which lasts for three days – and nights! The majority of bars, restaurants, shops and clubs can be found in the island's capital Mindelo which also provides a post-colonial port and is centre for artistic and intellectual communities.
It belongs to the volcanic isles and suffered from land erosion which is the reason for the smaller coastline. Nevertheless, there is a great beach located here on which the island's safest takes place. Those who are into sailing have to go to Sao Pedro beach which offers ideal conditions. In general one can say that Sao Vicente is the hub of cultural activities, in terms of music, and cosmopolitan vibe on Cape Verde. |
